After a thrilling weekend of football, many an NFL fan in the St. Louis area with digital cable looked forward to the outstanding programming that would follow that week.

Whoops. In a Scrooge-like tantrum only the NFL could throw the week before Christmas, the NFL Network was snatched from Charter on Dec. 19.

A Charter spokesperson told the American on Dec. 20 that the NFL Network had given the cable company an ultimatum – either move the NFL Network to a different “tier” of stations or lose it altogether.

The NFL Network on Dec. 19 pulled its signal from Charter Communications, the cable company confirmed Tuesday.

In a letter to Charter, the NFL stated that it wanted its network off the digital sports tier immediately.

Charter was the first multiple cable-system operator to carry the network, and the spokesperson said the company had nowhere to move the NFL Network

So, once again, NFL fans are the losers and the NFL could care less. Also, Charter has not mentioned a reduction in price for digital packages that included the NFL Network and has replaced the programming with hours upon hours of paid advertisement shows.
