Erma Jean Wise was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, on April 9, 1948. She had a passion for nurturing both people and plants. Jean never met a child that wasn’t a part of her family, and never encountered a plant she couldn’t grow.  As a resident of University City for 54 years, Jean sowed love and kindness into her interactions with neighbors, whom she adored. With her pleasant disposition, she was always willing to help. Jean was an avid gardener with a green thumb envied by all. She will be sorely missed.

Jean retired from Mercy Hospital in 2014 after a fruitful career and 36 years of dedicated service. After her retirement, she would often be seen at activities and events for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society, Purple Boas Chapter. More than anything, Jean was a faithful mother and friend. She dedicated her life to taking care of others. Family meant the world to her, and she did everything in her power to be present, engaged, and accounted for.

Ms. Jean Wise was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, and on June  22, 2024 he called her home. Her life was spent with a smile on her face and doing good for others regardless of the trials she was battling personally. Jean was an eternal optimist and a blessing to all who met her.  She had an amazing impact on those who knew her. Erma Jean (Earl) Wise leaves to mourn three children, O’Lester (Carmella), Angela (Eric), and Chris; one adopted daughter, Stephanie; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
